My Personal Branding | contd.

Almost days of brainstorming on the feedback and PMs from my friends and clients - I feel that I have to have my previous logo redesigned and personal branding re-engineered. So, I am starting it from the scratch again. Here are few iterations of my logo that I am presently working on:

I got to know it after 15 years

Well, it is just yesterday I was having a prospect meeting and we were talking about - how to choose a domain name? I was citing few supporting examples on how different companies go on adding an additional suffix in their company name to get an URL (domain), if their company domain name is not available!

One peculiar example suddenly struck my mind which was 15 years old story. It was about a corner town Internet Café named as BineetaSRL (previously, Bineeta). I remember, it was the first and only internet café in my town in the year 1996. Out of curiosity, once I asked the Café owner - why he added the suffix SRL at the end of Bineeta? He replied, “I got inspired from an Australian company writing SRL at the end of its name. That was really sounding good, so I thought of adding that suffix at the end of Bineeta as well, so that my Café name will get that attention”. Perhaps, he was right at that moment. Though the Café is not running anymore but till now the name gets good attention in my small town.

Today, after 15 years during a prospect meeting I was recalling the above name and the story behind it, unknown about the fact that what SRL is actually standing for? LOL !!

SRL or S.R.L. is an abbreviation, in several languages, for phrases equivalent to “Private Limited Company” in English, appearing at the end of many company names

I am not on Dribbble. But does it really matter, now?

image

Its been a year since I have been trying to get an invite to join Dribbble. But it is really difficult to get one unless you are very lucky. Recently, I got a chance to join Dribbble’s prospects list. No doubt, Dribbble has got a lot of wonderful designers sharing their recent works. It’s really cool to browse through their projects lists too. But does Dribbble ensure by placing a strong emphasis on quality, always?

Perhaps, it is not always, you ensure your invite is really worthy when it comes to maintaining the sole motto of an invite on Dribbble. I have seen many designers use Dribbble as Logopond!!

Nevertheless, the Dribble invite has become a status symbol for many designers and for some it has become a medium to escalate or market themselves. Well, the marketing policy is quite simple - just post an article naming “Dribbble Invite Giveaway” on your blog. Now, hundreds of designers and followers will drive-in to your blog :)

Here is another example of getting the invite on Twitter. @dribbbleme claims to be the best place to find Dribbble invite and so on.

How far these sort of giveaways are worthy to get a right Dribbbler? I believe the invitation should be based on evaluation or else that place becomes a complete mess.

My first impression on @LogoNest book 01

Just received a copy of Logonest 01 book. It’s an awesome hardcover, very well printed book. My first impression was ‘wow’! I browsed the whole book in a single shot.

Solid hardcover with a electric-orange color wrapper makes the book quite lucrative and attractive. A reader will love to browse to discover what’s in it.

The book contains few featured articles (7 articles) and cases (3 case studies) of popular designers and 112 pages of featured logos (448 logos of 130 designers all over the world) designed in the year 2010. This is quite there.

I feel only few things could have been taken care of while making this book:

  1. Numbering the pages where logos are featured
  2. 6 logos per page instead of 4 logos to reduce unwanted and unused white spaces to avoid distraction while browsing.
  3. Logo browsing and info (below each page) arrangement seems vertical and horizontal respectively that makes reading difficult.

Dimensions to a Consumer buying your service

This is to identify how you as a designer work strategically to gain your client’s attention and generate wealth. So it is important for you to understand what are the four dimensions to a consumer buying a specific product or service you offer:

  1. Value= (Benefit - Cost) you can promise to increase the desired benefits by keeping the cost to a minimum, which may depend on client expectations.
  2. Uniqueness: It depends on your service distinction over others
  3. Trust: This is a factor that is influenced by your experiences with your previous clients or projects execution
  4. Cost of Product or Service: This aspect becomes very important, especially, dealing with specific clients in specific countries. You can not expect the same cost of your service from a customer in Thailand or Nigeria or India (#justsaying) when dealing globally.

New projects

After the success of my previous identity project, TRACCOR - I am aiming to work further with the clients who contact me to get a new name for their company. Recently, I have been approached by a newly forming Ad-agency for a name.

They are also excited to have me designing a Brand for them. I have been offered to work with them for their next projects too. Most design projects their organization handles is about eco-packaging and social welfare advertisements. Nevertheless, I’m hoping that I would be starting their branding at the mid of this month.
